'This profile does not refer to the German indie-rock band. Miles' is a well-known name in the Bangladeshi music arena. One of the oldest pop bands of Bangladesh, Miles started their music career by releasing the first self titled album in 1982. In the album 'Miles' all the numbers were in English. At that time Miles used to perform only English numbers in hotels. But what brought them reputation were their Bangla albums.
Miles released their first Bangla album called Protisruty [Promise] in 1991. This was a blockbuster. Miles became more popular.
The second Bangla Album Prottasha [Hope] was released in 1993. This was a hit and still is the only best selling pop album in Bangladesh.
The third Bangla album called Prottoy [Confidence] came out in in 1996. Apart from this a CD was released from Bollywood and 2 "Best of Miles" CDs were compiled and released from India. Disco Recording, a Los Angeles based Bangladeshi recording company, also released a "Best of Miles" CD. Very popular songs by Miles are 1.Chand taraa Shurjo, 2. Prothom Premer Moto, 3. Shupto Bashona, 4. Phiriye Dao, 5. Dhiki Dhiki, 6. Koto kaal Khujbo, 7. Jadu, 8. Shey Kaan Dorodiya, 9. Phire Elena, 10. Paharie Meye, 11. E Monto ar, 12. Ghare Loiyaa Jao and 13. Shanti Chaai etc.
In 1999 Miles has completed 20 years of their successful performances. In observance of their 20th birthday Bangla album called 'Probaho' has been released. After that in the year 2007 they have released Protiddhoni(Reflection of Sounds)on the occasion of 25th anniversary.
First public appearance on Bangladesh Television as "Miles" on 1982. There First public Concert "Miles only" was also on that year at Shilpakala Academy Auditorium, Dhaka. After that followed by Engineering Institute, Rawa Club open air concert, Shaheen School OAC, Dhaka Medical college OAC, Buet OAC, TSC OAC, Shishu Academy OAC & lots of other important acts like 'FLOOD AID CONCERT' for 1986, 1988, 1990 & 1998.
Also played for Hotel Sheraton as a regular performing band for 8 years & for Hotel Sonargaon for 7 years plus most of the Diplomat parties ( 1984 - 1991 ) in Bangladesh. But what brought them reputation were their Bangla albums.
In 1997 BBC took & aired a number of MILES's interviews in their different programes along with some popular Bangla songs of the Band. Interview of 'MILES' was published in the oldest Bangla newspaper of London called JONOMOT. In 1996 performed in Calcutta for Jadobpur University & had a successful major tour of USA & Canada. This was first time a Bangladeshi rock band went on a tour to North America. Performed in many Charity Concerts for Rotary Club, Zonta Club, etc.

Being a child of a musical family Manam Ahmed started taking classical lessons from his father Mr. Mansur Ahmed ( a renowned music director of Bangladesh ) at the age of ten which continued for ten years plus from 1975 - 1979. He took lessons from Ustad Kamruzzaman Moni for classical tabla & performed at UPDA Auditorium, a solo event of half 'n hour classical tabla concert.
Joined the band 'Miles' as a keyboard player in 1980. His first appearance with 'Miles' was in 1982 at BTV & first band concert in Slippokala Academy. After that followed by Engineering Institute, Rawa Club open air concert, Shaheen School OAC, Dhaka Medical college OAC, Buet OAC, TSC OAC, Shishu Academy OAC & lots of other important acts like 'FLOOD AID CONCERT' for 1986, 1988, 1990 & 1998. Also played for Hotel Sheraton as a regular performing band for 8 years & for Hotel Sonargaon for 7 years plus most of the Diplomat parties ( 1984 - 1991 ) in Bangladesh. First english cassette released in 1982 titled 'Miles' & second in 1986 titled 'A Step Further'. First bangla cassette 'Protisruti' in 1991 which was the biggest commercially successful cassette in cassette industry in Bangladesh. Then 'Prottasha' in 1993, 'Prottoy' in 1996, 'Proyash' in 1997 & finally 'Probaho' in 1999. Successfully composed the songs for these albums which were mega hits like Chad Tara, Fheriye Dao, Dhiki Dhiki, Jala Jala, Mishti Hashi, Bhulbo Na Tomake, Shopno Bhongo, Ridoy Hina, Jhalmole Bikele etc. In 1992 first concert outside Bangladesh in Bangalore, India. In 1993 signed with Pepsi Cola for a sponsorship agreement of one year. In 1994 first CD of the band was released As 'The Best Of Miles' from USA which sold very well in the US, UK, Japan, UAE & in Bangladesh. Also performed in Chandigar, India and Gulf States Abu Dhabi & Dubai. In 1996 performed in Calcutta for Jadobpur University & had a successful major tour of USA & Canada.

1979 - '80 - First started playing for Bangladesh Radio Commercial service as a musician covering the instruments such as synthesizers, vibraphone & santoor for 8 years.
1980 - Started playing professionally for Film, Radio, Television & Cassette Industries. In this period played for the music directors like : Alauddin Ali, Alam Khan, Satta Shaha, Shubol Dash, Sheikh Sadi Khan, Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, Samar Dash, Khandakar Nurul Alam and his father Mansur Ahmed. Worked with Mr. Samor Dash as an assistant music director for the first SAAF GAMES held in Bangladesh in 1986, also did the same in 1996. As a music director for Film's his first job was in 1992 for the film 'LOVE' directed by Shohanur Rahman. Then followed by 'PREM PAGOL' by Julhas Chowdhury, 'CHANDNI RATE' by Ehtesham & 'PASHAN' by Babu Raj. Also helped most of the music director's for cassettes, film & tv.
His first solo composition done for 'Saba Tani' in 1989, 'Jhumu Khan' in 1995, & 'Ankhee Alamgir' in 1996. He also composed individual song tracks for Kumar Bishojitt, Khalid Hassan Milu, Roby Chowdhury, Konok Champa, Samina Chowdhury, Dolly Shayontoni and most of the other prominent artists of Bangladesh.
